Phil Steggall joined Purnell’s as Chef de Partie in February 2013, working his way up through the ranks to become Sous Chef in 2017.
As Sous Chef, Phil has various responsibilities throughout the kitchen – from preparation, running the larder and overseeing the meat and fish orders, to quality control under the watchful eye of Glynn. Phil also has responsibility for Purnell’s contribution to the Colmore Food Festival every summer.
Originally from Ashby Magna in Leicestershire, Phil trained at Leicester College before working at the Queen’s Head in Belton for two years. He moved from there to the luxurious 5* Royal Garden Hotel in London, where he worked as Senior Chef de Partie for three years.
Purnell’s feels like home when I walk in through the door on a morning, even the smell is like home.

When he’s at home Phil appreciates a nice New Zealand sauvignon blanc, or a good rum. He also enjoys going to live music gigs, and you always know where he is in the restaurant as he is usually singing in the corridors.
